Ancient Rome Produced some of the most advanced foods during their time. This article provides evidence that shows how the ancient romans were able to build an empire specifically base of their ability to be great farmers. They were some of the first ones to develop a system of barter that included crops and other kinds of food goods. Italian soil is some of the most fertile soil one earth because of the climate and its relative location to the Mediterranean Sea. Agriculture also often determined someone's political class too, whereas today we often think of the common farmer as the bottom of the totem pole.
